RGP Income Eligibility Calculator

This income calculator can help you understand your income relative to the Rent Guarantee Program’s (RGP) requirement of 60% or less of Median Family Income (MFI) under the HOME/CBDG Guidelines used by OHCS. To qualify for RGP:

  • The total household income of all adults must be calculated
  • Income must be at or below 60% HOME/CBDG Income Guidelines at the time of certification
  • Once income is certified during the course, it does not need to be updated/re-certified at the time of housing placement

The recommendation is to have 3 months of Income Documentation in your Housing Portfolio.

Step One: Confirm Income Pay Frequency

  1. Find the payment start date and payment end date on any income document and enter that information into the Income Start Date Field and Income End Date Field below to calculate the Frequency of the Payment. You can do this for each income document.
    • Daily: This is a payment made daily for a total of 365 pay days a year.
    • Weekly: This is a payment made weekly for a total of 52 pay days a year.
    • Bi-Weekly: This is a payment made every other week for a total of 26 pay days a year.
    • Semi-Monthly: This is a payment made twice a month for a total of 24 pay days a year.
    • Monthly: This is a payment made monthly for a total of 12 pay days a year.
    • Quarterly: This is a payment made once a quarter for a total of 4 pay days a year.
    • Yearly: This is a payment made once a year for a total of 1 pay day a year.

Step Two: Enter all income info into the Table.

  1. If you have no income at all, you can click on the checkbox next to No income source / zero income.
  2. Under Income Type, find the row that is closest to the income type of the documents you have.
  3. Select the correct Frequency of the Payment for the Income Type from the dropdown menu. Frequency is required for the income calculation.
  4. Under Amount #1, #2, #3, and #4, add in the gross (total) amount of income for that income document. For example, I have 3 paystubs from Rent-R-Us with gross amounts of $952, $900, and $ 1,200, all for the same time frequency: Bi-Weekly. In Income Source #1 – Gross Earnings, I would put the Frequency of Payment to Bi-Weekly. Amount #1 would be $952, Amount #2 would be $900, and Amount #3 would be $1,200. Thus, the Total Average is $1017.33, and the Annual is $26,450.67.
  5. As you enter other income, the total Average Monthly and Annual amounts will update at the bottom of the page.

Step Three: Enter Family Size and Location.

  1. Add your actual or expected graduation date at the bottom of the page.
  2. Add the county in which you were/are located when you were taking the course.
  3. Add the household size of your family.
  4. Click on the Calculate Eligibility A pop-up will come up to inform you about your MFI %. If your MFI is 60% or below, you are income-eligible for the guarantee.
